Venue: The Bell, Sawtry
Occasion: Bank Holiday Charity Music Day
Photographer: Some six year old guy apparently

On a lovely sunny day at the back end of August, the band played between a set by the R&B Band and Hooker to entertain the natives at The Bell in Sawtry.  Still tired from the Beer Festival gig two days previous, they went out there and had a bizarrly good laugh.  Due to all of the organisational hassle involved with the beer festival, the whole band forgot that their resident bass player, Dave, was actually on holiday.  A panic ensued as they tried without success to locate a stand-in that morning.  Upon giving up, Simon went down to Tescos to get some milk.  His phone rang and it was Colin Smith, the sound engineer, saying that a bass player had been found.

And so it was that Danny Hurran was the latest stand in bass player for The One Eyed Cats.

Without a rehearsal, or warm up, Danny stepped into the bass playing role and made it look like he'd never missed a gig (which I guess only goes to show how simple the music we play really is!).

Normally playing in tight shorts and little else with The Albert Tatlock Connection, Danny turned up sporting a pink tie, dress trousers and a white shirt.  There was only one way that things could go from there - weirder...

Do that gorgeous thing you do when you see a photie you like and click on it to view its full sized version.  Click on that there back button when you're finished to get yo'self back here.

If you weren't there, then you were unfortunate enough to miss Danny's wonderful be-bop bass solo, whilst scatting and drinking beer, all painted across the backdrop of Johnny B Goode.  It was an absolute joy to witness.

What was also a little odd was when the band were leaving (as Hooker were ploughing through a typically great set), they decided to beep the horn on the van to wave goodbye to the band, and punters, on their way out.

Hooker turned and waved.

Everybody in the pub's garden turned and waved.

The van reversed into the gate.

Much hilarity ensued.

If you ever see the van, take a look at the dent in the back that we inherited from this day.  That dent carries with it the memories that make people laugh until they double up with pain.  What a wonderful feeling that is.  Absolutely wonderful.
